Home Made Zeolite Filter
It is simple to build your own Zeolite Filtration System from materials that are easy to obtain at your local hardware or salvage yard. A small filter for ponds can be made from a five gallon plastic pail, PVC pipe & fittings, and Zeolite. A larger filter can be built from a 35 gallon drum with a removable, sealable lid. Below is instructions for building a large filter from a 35 gallon drum. The
top pipe is constructed from 3/4” PVC placed 4 inches from the top of the barrel. Holes are drilled in several locations in the PVC to allow water to drip down through the Zeolite Media. The top pipe
must be supported on the opposite side of the barrel to keep it from breaking off.

The bottom of the barrel contains the radial (shown below from top view). The radial is constructed from PVC 3/4” pipe, one 4 way coupling, 3 3/4” PVC end caps, and a coupler. The radial must be
located at least 2” from the bottom of the barrell. Slits or holes can be cut small enough so that the Zeolite media will not pass through. If holes are drilled, wrap lines with panty hose or nylon mesh
that is fine enough to trap the Zeolite Media. Install radials and top pipes, pour barrell 1/2 full of Zeolite (3 Bags), and seal barrel lid.

The water pressure may have to be regulated, as the barrel filter is designed for low pressure applications.
